The design and characterization of an imaging system is presented for depth information capture of arbitrary three-dimensional (3-D) objects. The core of the system is an array of 32 × 32 rangefinding pixels that independently measure the time-of-flight of ...

A two-dimensional (2-D) array (4 by 8) of single-photon avalanche diodes integrated in an industrial complementary metal-oxide-semiconductor (CMOS) process is presented. Each pixel combines a photodiode biased above its breakdown voltage in the so-called Geiger mode, a quenching resistor, and a simple comparator. The pitch between the pixels is 75 mum and the diameter of each pixel is 6.4 mum. The full integration allows reducing the number of charge carriers in a Geiger pulse. The electroluminescence respo

A solid-state imager fabricated in CMOS technology is presented for depth information capture of arbitrary 3D objects with millimeter resolution. The system is based on an array of 32x32 pixels that independently measure the time-of-flight of a ray of ligh ...

NMR spectra of mammalian cells are taken using surface microprobes that are based on microfabricated planar coils. The surface microprobe resembles a miniaturized Petri dish commonly used in biological research. The diameter of the planar coils is 1 mm. Ch ...

A 3D imager is presented capable of computing the depth map as well as the intensity scale of a given scene. The heart of the system is a two-dimensional array of single photon avalanche diodes fabricated in standard CMOS technology. The diodes exhibit low noise equivalent power, high dynamic range and superior linearity. The 3D imager achieves sub-millimetric precision at depth-of-field of a few meters. It operates using a standard LASER source pulsed at 50MHz with 40mW peak power and requires no mechanica

NMR-microprobes based on solenoids and Helmholtz coils have been microfabricated and NMR-spectra of mammalian cells have successfully been taken. The microfabrication technology developed for these probes consists of three electroplated copper levels for l ...

The invention relates to a method and device for identifying luminescent molecules according to the fluorescence correlation spectroscopy method. The inventive method comprising the following steps: a) preparing a sample (12) containing luminescent molecul ...

We present the design, fabrication and test of high-Q factor radiofrequency planar microcoils for nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy in small volume samples. The coils are fabricated on glass wafers using high-aspect ratio SU-8 photoepoxy and copper electroplating. On-wafer electrical characterization shows quality factors up to 40 at 800 MHz. A 500 μm diameter microcoil with a measured quality factor of 24 at 300 MHz is mounted on a printed circuit board and electrically contacted using aluminum

A 3D imager is presented capable of capturing the depth map of an arbitrary scene. Depth is measured by computing the time-of-flight of a ray of light as it leaves the source and is reflected by the objects in the scene. The round-trip time is converted to digital code independently for each pixel using a CMOS time-to-digital converter. To reach millimetric accuracies an array of 32×32 highly sensitive, ultra-low jitter CMOS detectors capable of detecting a single photon is used. The scene is illuminated us

In this paper we report on a 32×32 optical imager based on single photon avalanche diodes integrated in CMOS technology. The maximum measured dynamic range is 120dB and the minimum noise equivalent intensity is 1.3×-3lx. The minimum integration time per pi ...

We present parallel single molecule detection (SMD) and fluorescence correlation spectroscopy (FCS) experiments with a fully integrated complementary metal oxide semiconductor (CMOS) single-photon 2 X 2 detector array. Multifocal excitation is achieved with a diffractive optical element (DOE). Special emphasis is placed on parallelization of the total system. The performance of the novel single-photon CMOS detector is investigated and compared to a state-of-the-art single-photon detecting module [having an

Using a highly sensitive silicon Hall sensor fabricated in a standard complementary metal-oxide-semiconductor (CMOS) technology, we detect a single magnetic microbead of 2.8 μm in diameter. The miniaturized sensor has an active area of 2.4×2.4 μm 2, a sensitivity of 175 V/AT and a resistance of 8.5 k. Two detection methods, both exploiting the superparamagnetic behavior of the bead, are experimentally tested and their performances are compared. This work opens the way to the fabrication of low cost microsys

An 8x4 avalanche diode array in a 0.8μm CMOS process uses single photon counting for time-of-light range finding with 100ps 40mW decollimated laser pulses. An accuracy of 618μm is achieved from 15cm to 1m with 10e4 pulses.

Integrated circuit (1) comprising: an array of single photon avalanche diodes (SPADs), a plurality of read-out circuits, each SPADs being coupled to one read-out circuit, wherein at least some of the read-out circuits comprise time-to-digital converters (T ...
