We propose methods to quantitatively calculate the fluctuation rate of red blood cells with nanometric axial and millisecond temporal sensitivity at the single-cell level by using time-lapse holographic cell imaging. For this quantitative analysis, cell me ...

The ionotropic GABA(A) receptors represent the main target for different groups of widely used drugs having hypnotic and anxiolytic effects. So far, most approaches used to assess GABA activity involve invasive low -throughput electrophysiological techniqu ...

The process of protein phosphorylation is involved in numerous cell functions. In particular, phosphotyrosine (pY) has been reported to play a role in red blood cell (RBC) functions, including the cytoskeleton organization. During their storage before tran ...

Hookworm infections cause a neglected tropical disease (NTD) affecting ~740 million people worldwide, principally those living in disadvantaged communities. Infections can cause high morbidity due to their impact on nutrient uptake and their need to feed o ...

The development of targeted therapies offers new hope for patients affected by incurable cancer. However, multiple challenges persist, notably in controlling tumor cell plasticity in patients with refractory and metastatic illness. Neuroblastoma (NB) is an ...

Simple Summary We determined the sensitivity of several conjunctival melanoma cell lines to kinase inhibitors as well as a few other inhibitors using an image-based high throughput drug screening assay with 542 compounds. All cell lines demonstrated sensit ...

Background. Red blood cells collected in citrate-phosphate-dextrose can be stored for up to 42 days at 4 degrees C in saline-adenine-glucose-mannitol additive solution. During this controlled, but nevertheless artificial, ex vivo ageing, red blood cells ac ...

Rod-shaped bacteria frequently localize proteins to one or both cellpoles in order to regulate processes such as chromosome replication or polar organ-elle development. However, the roles of polar factors in responses to extracellularstimuli have been gene ...

The study of membranes is at a turning point. New theories about membrane structure and function have recently been proposed, however, new technologies, combining chemical, physical, and biochemical approaches are necessary to test these hypotheses. In par ...

Endemic human coronaviruses (hCoVs) 229E and OC43 cause respiratory disease with recurrent infections, while severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS)-CoV-2 spreads across the world with impact on health and societies. Here, we report an image-based multicy ...

Canine distemper virus (CDV), a close relative of the human pathogen measles virus (MeV), is an enveloped, negative sense RNA virus that belongs to the genus Morbillivirus and causes severe diseases in dogs and other carnivores. Although the vaccination is ...

Drug combinations are extensively used to treat cancer and are often selected according to complementary mechanisms. Here, we describe a cell-based high-throughput screening assay for identification of synergistic combinations between broadly applied plati ...

Advances in treatment strategies together with an earlier diagnosis have considerably increased the average survival of cancer patients over the last four decades. Nevertheless, despite the growing number of new antineoplastic agents introduced each year, ...

Bacterial toxin-antitoxin systems (TASs) are thought to respond to various stresses, often inducing growth-arrested (persistent) sub-populations of cells whose housekeeping functions are inhibited. Many such TASs induce this effect through the translation-dependent RNA cleavage (RNase) activity of their toxins, which are held in check by their cognate antitoxins in the absence of stress. However, it is not always clear whether specific mRNA targets of orthologous RNase toxins are responsible for their pheno

This invention provides a new method of obtaining a high density, reproducible and uniform coverage of a solid surface, compounds suitable for such a method and methods of preparing such compounds. This invention further relates to methods of the chemical ...

A general method for understanding the mechanisms of ligand recognition and activation of G protein-coupled receptors has been developed. A study of ligand-receptor interactions in the prototypic seven-transmembrane neurokinin-2 receptor (NK2) using this fluorescence-based approach is presented. A fluorescent unnatural amino acid was introduced at known sites into NK2 by suppression of UAG nonsense codons with the aid of a chem. misacylated synthetic tRNA specifically designed for the incorporation of unnat

The increasing number of cancer cases and the prevalence of failed treatments underscore the need for alternative therapeutics and more predictive screening methods. In this context, the field of 3D cultures (termed spheroid, organoid, or tumoroid models) has seen rapid growth in recent years, leading to a range of more physiologically relevant models compared to standard 2D culture methods. However, many of these models face limitations in scalability due to their complex setup, maintenance requirements, a

Multiple enveloped RNA viruses of the family Paramyxoviridae and Pneumoviridae, like measles virus (MeV), Nipah virus (NiV), canine distemper virus (CDV), or respiratory syncytial virus (RSV), are of high clinical relevance. Each year a huge number of live ...

This manuscript proposes a new dual-mode cell imaging system for studying the relationships between calcium dynamics and the contractility process of cardiomyocytes derived from human-induced pluripotent stem cells. Practically, this dual-mode cell imaging ...

Adenoviruses (AdVs) are prevalent and give rise to chronic and re-current disease. Human AdV (HAdV) species B and C, such as HAdV-C2, -C5, and-B14, cause respiratory disease and constitute a health threat for immunocom-promised individuals. HAdV-Cs are wel ...
