Efficient solutions for the classification of multi-view images can be built on graph-based algorithms when little information is known about the scene or cameras. Such methods typically require a pairwise similarity measure between images, where a common ...

Structure inference is an important task for network data processing and analysis in data science. In recent years, quite a few approaches have been developed to learn the graph structure underlying a set of observations captured in a data space. Although ...

Network coding permits to deploy distributed packet delivery algorithms that locally adapt to the network availability in media streaming applications. However, it may also increase delay and computational complexity if it is not implemented efficiently. We address here the effective placement of nodes that implement randomized network coding in overlay networks, so that the goodput is kept high while the delay for decoding stays small in streaming applications. We first estimate the decoding delay at each

Despite their irresistible success, deep learning algorithms still heavily rely on annotated data, and unsupervised settings pose many challenges, such as finding the right inductive bias in diverse scenarios. In this paper, we propose an object-centric mo ...

Learning transformation invariant representations of visual data is an important problem in computer vision. Deep convolutional networks have demonstrated remarkable results for image and video classification tasks. However, they have achieved only limited ...

We address the problem of joint path selection and rate allocation in multipath streaming in order to optimize a media specific quality of service. An optimization problem is proposed, which aims at minimizing a video distortion metric based on sequence-dependent parameters, and transmission channel characteristics, for a given network infrastructure. Even if in general, optimal path selection and rate allocation is an NP complete problem, an in-depth analysis of the media distortion evolution allows to def

We address the problem of joint path selection and rate allocation in multipath wireless streaming, in order to optimize a media specific quality of service. We leverage on the existence of multiple parallel wireless services, in order to enhance the received video quality at a wireless client. An optimization problem is proposed, which aims at minimizing a video distortion metric based on sequence-dependent parameters, and transmission channel characteristics, for a given wireless network infrastructure. Due to the presence of buffers in the inner network nodes, each congestion event leads to buffer queueing and thus to an increasing end-to-end delay. In the case of delay sensitive applications, a large delay might not be acceptable and a solution to prope ...

In this paper we propose a novel vertex based sampling method for k-bandlimited signals lying on arbitrary graphs, that has a reasonable computational complexity and results in low reconstruction error. Our goal is to find the smallest set of vertices that ...

We address the joint problem of clustering heterogenous clients and allocating scalable video source rate and FEC redundancy in IPTV systems. We propose a streaming solution that delivers varying portions of the scalably encoded content to different client ...

In a typical video rate allocation problem, the objective is to optimally distribute a source rate budget among a set of (in)dependently coded data units to minimize the total distortion. Conventional Lagrangian approaches convert the lone rate constraint ...

Preserving privacy is a growing concern in our society where cameras are ubiquitous. In this work, we propose a trainable image acquisition method that removes the sensitive information in the optical domain before it reaches the image sensor. The method b ...

Event detection has been one of the most important research topics in social media analysis. Most of the traditional approaches detect events based on fixed temporal and spatial resolutions, while in reality events of different scales usually occur simulta ...

In multiview applications, camera views can be used as reference views to synthesize additional virtual viewpoints, allowing users to freely navigate within a 3D scene. However, bandwidth constraints may restrict the number of reference views sent to clien ...

This paper addresses the problem of distributed image coding in camera neworks. The correlation between multiple images of a scene captured from different viewpoints can be effiiciently modeled by local geometric transforms of prominent images features. Su ...

The distributed representation of correlated images is an important challenge in applications such as multi-view imaging in camera networks or low complexity video coding. This paper addresses the problem of distributed coding of images whose correlation is driven by the motion of objects or the positioning of the vision sensors. It concentrates on the problem where images are encoded with compressed linear measurements, which are used for estimation of the correlation between images at decoder. We propose

This paper addresses the problem of efficient representation and compression of scenes captured by distributed vision sensors. We propose a novel geometrical model to describe the correlation between different views of a three-dimensional scene. We first approximate the camera images by sparse expansion over a dictionary of geometric atoms, as the most important visual features are likely to be equivalently dominant in images from multiple cameras. The correlation model is then built on local geometrical tr

Implicit neural representations (INRs) have recently emerged as a promising alternative to classical discretized representations of signals. Nevertheless, despite their practical success, we still do not understand how INRs represent signals. We propose a ...

The widespread use of the Internet and the maturing of digital video technology have led to an increase in various streaming media applications. As broadband to the home becomes more prevalent, the bottleneck of delivering quality streaming media is shifting upstream to the backbone, peering links, and the best-effort Internet. In this paper, we address the problem of efficiently streaming video assets to the end clients over a distributed infrastructure consisting of origin servers and proxy caches. We bui
