This lecture covers the determination of stability limits for conventional proportional controllers and cascade control systems with two proportional controllers, as well as the calculation of offset error for a unit step change. It also discusses the properties of cascade control, including rapid rejection of perturbations, improved disturbance rejection, and enhanced stability margin, leading to reduced steady-state error.

Ljubisa Miskovic

Ljubisa Miskovic earned his Ph.D. degree in Automatic Control from the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (EPFL) under the co-supervision of Dominique Bonvin and Alireza Karimi, in 2006. He pursued his postdoctoral studies at the Centre for Systems Engineering and Applied Mechanics, Universite Catholique de Louvain with Michel Gevers before moving to the laboratory of Vassily Hatzimanikatis at the EPFL. In 2010, he became a research scientist. His research interests include systems biology, metabolic engineering, synthetic biology, data-driven control design, system identification, stochastic processes and estimation theory.

Closed-loop controller

A closed-loop controller or feedback controller is a control loop which incorporates feedback, in contrast to an open-loop controller or non-feedback controller. A closed-loop controller uses feedback to control states or outputs of a dynamical system.
