Internship Report: Hangqian Li

Description

This lecture presents the internship report of EPFL Digital Humanities Master student Hangqian Li at Tencent Al lab. The slides cover Li's work tasks, including using a multi-camera system for 3D avatar reconstruction, researching neural radiance field for dynamic virtual human reconstruction, and realtime rendering of dynamic avatars. Li also shares the technical skills sharpened during the internship, such as Linux, docker, python, and C++, as well as learning new neural rendering techniques different from traditional computer graphics.

Natural language processing

Natural language processing (NLP) is an interdisciplinary subfield of linguistics and computer science. Natural-language understanding (NLU) or natural-language interpretation (NLI) is a subtopic of natural-language processing in artificial intelligence that deals with machine reading comprehension. Natural-language understanding is considered an AI-hard problem. There is considerable commercial interest in the field because of its application to automated reasoning, machine translation, question answering, news-gathering, text categorization, voice-activation, archiving, and large-scale content analysis.

Machine learning

Machine learning (ML) is an umbrella term for solving problems for which development of algorithms by human programmers would be cost-prohibitive, and instead the problems are solved by helping machines 'discover' their 'own' algorithms, without needing to be explicitly told what to do by any human-developed algorithms. Recently, generative artificial neural networks have been able to surpass results of many previous approaches.
