This lecture delves into the kinetic description of the two-stream instability, focusing on the linear stability criterion and the dispersion relation plotted using MATLAB. Students will also explore the nonlinear evolution of the instability using a particle in-cell code and compare the results with the linear stability calculation. A bonus exercise involves calculating the time evolution of momentum and total energy. In case of difficulty, solutions are provided to aid in completing the exercises.
