Development of Specific Damage Equivalence Factors for Fatigue Assessment of Railway Bridges in Europe

Alain Nussbaumer

For the fatigue verification of railway bridges, European standards EN 1991-2, EN 1993-2, and EN 1992-2 provide a simplified procedure using a damage equivalence factor (lambda method). Engineers verify that the stress range from the LM71 load model does not exceed the reference fatigue resistance of the detail. These factors were established by correlating LM71 stress ranges with equivalent ranges from limited train simulations over selected influence lines, calculating cumulative damage with multi-linear

Aurelio Bay

A measurement of the branching fraction for the decay

The analysis is based on data recorded between 2016 and 2018, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 5.4 fb − 1 . The result is obtained using Λ → pμ − decays as a normalisation channel. The measured branching fraction is $ \mathcal{B}\left(\Lambda \to p{\mu}^{-}{\overline{\nu}}_{\mu}\right)=\

European traffic on road bridges and recalibration of lambda factor for fatigue verification

The evolution of European traffic, combined with the current works of revision of the Eurocode (CEN250 project 2nd Eurocode generation), represents an opportunity to improve the simplified method for fatigue checks (also known as the lambda method) for road bridges. This thesis is focused in particular on the development of the factor for the damage effect of traffic λ1 curves, which suffers unresolved inconsistencies and gaps regarding the types of models that have been used to obtain them, and for the tot

Note on the relation between profile scalelengths and lambda's

Olivier Sauter

The calculation of the inverse scalelengths

R/L_T

R/L_n

may depend on the choice of the radial variable, depending on the definition of the scalelength. The value of

\lambda_T

and

\lambda_n

, as defined in [O. Sauter {\it et al}, Phys. Plasmas {\bf 21} (2014) 055906], do depend on the radial variable used in the exponential. We discuss the various options and the typical values obtained with C-Mod and TCV equilibria.
