Harald HauTeaching & PhD Courses International Finance FIN-610 This is a doctoral level course introducing students to important topics in international finance. It also covers aspects of the recent financial crisis, such as market contagions, regulatory arbitrage and failure, stability issues of a currency union and of the banking system.
Andrea VezzosiAndrea Vezzosi is a postdoctoral researcher in the group of Prof. Ursula Rothlisberger at the Institute of Chemical Sciences and Engineering, EPFL (Switzerland). He earned his Ph.D. in Physics and Nanosciences from the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia in 2024, where he investigated spin–orbit coupling and topological states in core–shell semiconductor nanowires. During his doctoral studies, he developed nwkp, an open-source Python library for computing the band structure of core–shell nanowires using

Current work
Currently developing micro-electromechanical actuators for microparticle manipulation in microfluidics. We are exploiting regular arrangements of three-dimensional electrodes in microchannels as active modules to perform complex bioanalytical steps in a lab-on-chip compact and automatized format. In particular, we aim at apply

Cristian Ariel LopezTeaching & PhD Courses Philosophy of life sciences I HUM-429 Understand and discuss central issues in the philosophy of life sciences, e.g. that of reductionism or why free will might be an illusion. Transpose problems and arguments from one debate to another. Evaluate the impact of the scientific worldview on us.
Bence DienesBence Dienes joined EPFL as a doctoral assistant of the soil biogeochemistry laboratory (SOIL) in February 2023. He aims to understand the fundamental principles and processes that govern the biogeochemical cycling of key elements in alpine soils. Bence holds a Bachelor's and a Master's degree in environmental sciences and biogesciences from the University of Lausanne. Passionate in mountains, he expanded his understanding in alpine habitats during his Master thesis and he was part of the GLORIA research te
Romain ZuffereyTeaching & PhD Courses Biology for engineers MSE-212 This course consists of an introduction to biology and more particularly to biology as a multidisciplinary field, emphasizing natural examples of materials engineering. It should therefore allow engineering students to find inspiration from biology in future materials research problems. Valentin Daniel Maurice BourdonValentin Bourdon is an architect, postdoctoral researcher and teaching assistant. He obtained the french architectural diploma in 2013 from the École d’Architecture de la Ville et des Territoires Paris-Est at Marne-la-Vallée under the direction of Jacques Lucan, and completed his PhD at EPFL in 2020, under the supervision of Luca Ortelli. Since September 2021, he coordinates the Habitat Research Center at EPFL. Involved in the studies of the Laboratory of Construction and Conservation between 2017 and 2021, he also contributes in the supervision of its Housing Studio - Project Theory and Criticism for architecture bachelor. During his doctoral research, he benefited of an academic stay at Metrolab Brussels in 2019 with the support of the SNSF, and published multiple scientific and non-academic publications. His arrival in Switzerland and return to the academic world take place after a thorough professional experience in the parisian office MGAU Michel Guthmann Architecture Urbanisme. From 2010 to 2016, he participed to the majority of its developed projects and supervised several of them, both collective dwellings projects and urban projects.
