Alina KleimenovaTeaching & PhD Courses Physics project II PHYS-422 The student applies the competencies acquired during her/his studies in a research study developed in one of the laboratories of the physics section under the supervision of teacher of the section. The student is present during a whole day of the week in the laboratory during the semester.

I am a geomechanics researcher with interests in the mechanical behavior of the Earth's materials at conditions pertaining to the shallow Earth and upper mantle. In my studies, I employ laboratory geomechanics backed by x-ray methods, advanced constitutive modeling, and material theories to study failure patterns across scales spanning from the grain-scale up to the field-scale.

David Michael Volpe RuggieroTeaching & PhD PhD Students Ömer Faruk Behçet, Elias Merhi, Enrico Pinelli, Ahmad Abdulrahman Ahmad Majdouba, Muhammad Mahmood Mohi Ud Din Courses Reinforced concrete structures CIVIL-323 This course introduces the student to the behaviour and design of reinforced concrete structures. The student will learn the principles of analysis of reinforced concrete and how to design common concrete elements including columns, beams, and slabs. Reinforced concrete structures - advanced topics
Samuel DubuisAfter mathematics studies at EPFL, I go on with a PhD thesis under the supervision of Prof. Marco Picasso. Interested in teaching, I turn to the preparatory year of EPFL (CMS) where I worked since 2020.Centers of interests I like to work in classroom with students, in particular to guide them through elementary mathematics contents, that are the basis of engineering and experimental sciences.I also work with Prof. Picasso and his PhD and intern students in the fields of scientific computing and numerical a
Mathieu HuruguenTeaching & PhD Courses Algèbre linéaire et géométrie (pour MAN) PREPA-032(a) We present the fundamental notions of linear algebra in the geometric context where they emerged. We will therefore emphasize the dimensions 2 and 3, and insist on the visualisation of classical objects and operations in the plane and in the 3D space. Analysis II (for CMS) PREPA-005(a) This class focus on the studies of special functions : trigonometric, logarithmic and exponential functions. Anal
Georgios MoschidisTeaching & PhD PhD Students Abraham Gabriel Dorsaz Courses Analysis IV (for EL, GM, MX) MATH-207(c) This course serves as an introduction to the theory of complex analysis, Fourier series and Fourier transforms, the Laplace transform, with applications to the theory of ordinary and partial differential equations. These tools play an integral role in most branches of science and engineering. Differential geometry I - curves and surfaces MATH-213 This course serves as an intr
Dominique PiolettiDominique Pioletti received his Master in Physics from the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Lausanne (EPFL) in 1992. He pursued his education in the same Institution and obtained his PhD in biomechanics in 1997. He developed original constitutive laws taking into account viscoelasticity in large deformations. Then he spent two years at UCSD as post-doc fellow acquiring know-how in cell and molecular biology. He was interested in particular to gene expression of bone cells in contact to orthopedic implant. In April 2006, Dominique Pioletti was appointed Assistant Professor tenure-track at the EPFL and is director of the Laboratory of Biomechanical Orthopedics. His research topics include biomechanics and tissue engineering of musculo-skeletal tissues; mechano-transduction in bone; development of orthopedic implant as drug delivery system. Since 2013, he has been promoted to the rank of Associate Professor.
Aurélie Anne-Laure TerrierAn architect and archaeologist, Aurélie Terrier has been developing for more than two decades a singular expertise at the interface of architectural archaeology, digital heritage and the history of ancient built environments. Her research focuses on ancient and medieval architecture, architectural archaeology, the reuse of building materials, issues related to construction sites, new technologies and digital humanities, as well as the valorisation and restoration of heritage.
